The most recent Nigerian passports are similar to European and American passports in that they are machine-readable. The application process begins online and has been simplified for efficiency. An interview process has also been added.
The application for the Nigerian passport must be filled out online. Print out the finished form and take it, along with required documentation, to the nearest immigration office for your interview.
Documents needed by all citizens include the National Identity Card, birth certificate, a photocopy of the data page from the old passport and the guarantor's form. Other documents, depending on the situation, can include marriage documents, letters and passports from parents (for children under 16), local government letters of identification and police reports.
All applicants must submit to an interview by an immigration officer. This regulation is used to further prove identity and reduce fraud.
A recent photograph of the applicant must be used for the passport. This photo must be clear and in color.
