- Slow down and approach at a slow, steady speed. Sudden movements or loud noises can spook a horse and cause it to bolt, which could result in injury to the rider, horse, or you.
- Give the horse and rider plenty of space. When passing, leave at least 3 feet between your vehicle and the horse. If possible, cross the road to give them even more space.
- Be patient. Horses can be unpredictable, so be prepared to stop and wait if the horse becomes agitated or frightened.
- Never attempt to pet or feed a horse without the rider's permission. This could startle the horse and cause it to bolt.
