Street parking options at the corner of 34th street and 5th avenue are all but nonexistent from Monday to Friday, as all streets have been designated no parking zones, usable only by commercial vehicles with metered parking from 8:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. On Saturdays, non-commercial vehicles may park on the street at meters. After 7:00 P.M., parking is permitted for no cost in many areas.
If you wish to drive into Manhattan and park your car during the daytime hours on weekdays, your best and only option may be one of the many parking garages located throughout the city. In high-traffic areas like Herald Square, there are parking garages located beneath the buildings on nearly every block, which can be located thanks to signage and the occasional flag man.
Central Park is ringed from top to bottom with a semi-lenient parking zone that allows free street parking between certain posted hours, with exceptions only for the weekly street cleaning service to pass through. Make sure to read all parking regulation signs before parking.
If you get tired of searching for a free spot, there is always the option of a paid parking garage near Central Park on the east side within the numbered blocks between 5th and Madison avenues, or on the west between Central Park West and Columbus avenues.
