How to Park at the Empire State Building

The Empire State Building, located at 34th Street and Fifth Avenue, is in one of the most congested parts of New York City. It is one block from a subway station, where the D, B, F, M, Q, N and R trains stop, and two blocks east of Penn Station, where the Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit, Amtrak and 1, 2 and 3 trains stop. Two blocks east of the Empire State Building, you will find the 6 train. Parking at the Empire State Building can be challenging.

    • 1

Avoid 34th Street. The street has crosstown buses and constant traffic. Taxis are even forbidden from stopping in front of the Empire State Building to pick up passengers, so you cannot park or even sit in your car on 34th Street.

    • 2

Use a parking garage. On 35th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues, you will find several parking garages. These are expensive, and often filled early, so if you insist on driving, get to the garage early.

    • 3

Use a parking lot south of the Empire State Building. Central Parking System, on 31st St between Broadway and 6th Avenue, offers discounted parking with a coupon from its website.
