How to Park at an Airport

Parking correctly at an airport depends significantly on the reason for going to the airport, the type of trip involved, and how much you want to pay for parking. Many airports have different options to choose from, ranging from very close, covered and secure, to very far away but economical. Frequently dubbed short-term, day parking, and long-term parking, the choices generally meet most people's needs for car storage while on a trip. Navigating the system correctly requires just a little planning ahead.

Instructions

    • 1

Look up your local airport and parking information. Write down on a notepad the type of parking available and cost. Compare the information with your needs for parking, for example, picking someone up, short-term trip or long-term trip.

    • 2

Drive to the airport the day of the trip. When nearing the facility look for signs that designate airport parking. Based on your notepad information and which parking category works for your trip, steer your car towards that parking facility. Enter the parking zone after taking a parking ticket from the entry booth.

Put the parking ticket in your wallet or personal bag for safekeeping. Find a convenient parking spot, unload, remove any valuables out of sight from the windows, and lock the vehicle. Take a free shuttle to the main airport terminals from the various parking stops if parked far away.

Return to your car after your trip. Pull out your parking ticket to have it handy when exiting the parking zone. Load your car and exit the parking area. Stop at the exit booth and submit your parking ticket. Pay for your time parked with a payment tool (cash or credit card). Drive out past the booth when payment is cleared and the pass gate is lifted.
