Figure out the best time of year to visit the park. For example, cacti are in bloom in April while summer months are very hot.
Pick up an atlas and decide on the best way to get there. Nowhere near any highways, you will be on back roads and need to figure out the most direct route or, if you want to take your time, other places to visit along the way such as Marfa or Marathon.
Decide where you will stay. There is one hotel within the park and a few in the towns outside the entrance. There is tent and RV camping within the park.
Pack appropriately for what you plan to do, hiking, camping, rafting or touring. Be sure to have sun protection, plenty of water and good shoes.
Don't miss the diverse and spectacular sites such as the hot springs, Chisos Basin and Santa Elena Canyon.
