Figure out the best time of year to visit the park. For example, mosquitoes are swarming in June and July, and the park is closed from September to April.
Decide on the best way to get to Alaska if you don't live there already. A large and wondrous state, you can spend a lifetime exploring it. Take a boat, train, car, bus or fly. Consider stopping at some of the diverse cities along the way, such as Fairbanks to the north or Talkeetna to the south.
Decide where you will stay. There are several hotel and RV accommodations outside the park in the town of Denali and a few campgrounds within the park. You can also do some back-country camping.
Pack appropriately for what you plan to do: hiking, camping, rafting or backpacking. Be sure to have sun protection, plenty of water, bug repellent, binoculars and good shoes.
The highlight of Denali National Park, Mt. McKinley, can often be obscured by clouds and bad weather for several days. Plan to stick around at least a week to ensure that you get a glimpse of the tallest mountain in North America.
