There are two major cities you can fly to in order to connect to a puddle jumper (usually 9-seater planes) to the island of St. Barts: San Juan (90 minutes away) or St. Martin (15 minutes away). You can also catch a commuter plane from the islands of St. John, St. Thomas or Guadeloupe.
Check flights online with major airline carriers for airfare to St. Martin or San Juan. Once you’ve booked that flight, call one of the charter flight companies that fly to and from St. Barts for connection flights onto the island. There are a bunch of flights daily so you shouldn’t have any problems getting on one of them.
However, the airport at St. Barts comprises mainly of a small and narrow landing strip (probably just big enough for a Gulfstream) that doesn’t have any lights on the runway. So this means that flights can’t land or take off beyond dusk. Be sure to fly in before sun down or else you’re not making it on or off the island!
Then, you can rent a car from one of the several car rental agencies located at the St. Barts airport from Hertz, Budget or Avis either before you go by calling their 800 numbers or visiting their websites. You can also just head to one of their counters at the airport after you land and get a car on the spot.
If you’re doing online bookings, be sure to print out all your confirmations and have the company also send you e-mail confirmations in addition.
Once you have all your air, car and hotel bookings complete, don’t forget to pack your passport and don’t miss your flights!
