How to Plan a Dive Trip to Belize

Located in Central America, just southwest of the Mexican border, is the small country of Belize. It is known in the scuba community as one of the best places to dive in the world. Planning a dive trip to Belize isn't about if you can find a good place to dive, but where to go to see the best of the best.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide how long the trip to Belize will last. Some dive trips last as long as week, others can be just day tours.

    • 2

Reserve a hotel with your schedule in mind. If you are going to be on a boat for several days, ask the shop or hotel if there is a place to store your other belongings.

    • 3

Choose the type of dive or dives the group wants to take. Experience must play a part in this decision as you must have certain certifications to dive.

    • 4

Book flights with caution. Check in certification books for information on when not to fly before and after diving.

    • 5

Pick one or combine from the most popular areas that Belize has to offer. Three of the most popular areas are Three Outer Atolls, Ambergris CaVe and the Northern/Southern Barrier Reef.

    • 6

Ask questions to feel comfortable with the dive master and the shop that you choose to dive with. Be sure that the boat is equipped with enough gear for all that are going diving. It isn't ideal to have to take turns diving because you have to share weights with someone else.

    • 7

Bring along any extra gear you may need on this trip. Prescription masks, knives, certification cards and your fins and snorkel are just a few ideas of gear to bring from home.
