How to Get to Queens From the Upper West Side of New York

Getting around can be overwhelming and confusing in a city as large as New York City. Avoid driving if at all possible, as the city can be one big traffic jam. Your best bet is to take the New York Metro system. The metro is a complex system of subway trains and buses; using it to get to Queens from the Upper West Side is simple.

      Go to the 96th Street subway on 96th Street and Broadway. Purchase a metro card at the electronic kiosks in the station. As of 2010, one ride on a train or bus in NYC costs $2.25, including transfers.

      Take the #3 train going towards New Lots Station. Get off at 42nd Street - Times Square. This is a very short ride, generally less than 10 minutes.

      Follow the signs to the #7 train going toward Main Street Flushing; board the train. Get off at the last stop, Main Street Flushing (the ride will take about 40 minutes). You will be on Main Street in the Flushing area, located roughly in the center of the Queens borough.
