Have a valid driver's license. All operators of motor vehicles in Windsor require a valid license. Your driver's license must be on your person at all times when operating a vehicle. Similarly, you should have license and registration information for your vehicle handy.
Visit an Ontario Travel Center. Windsor has two Ontario Travel Center locations. Each is located near border crossings, for the convenience of American travelers. The Ambassador Bridge location is located directly down Huron Church, which is the street the bridge exits onto. The Detroit/Windsor Tunnel location is on Park Street, east of the tunnel exit, just under a mile away.
Use a taxi service. Multiple taxi cab companies exist in the city. The most popular Windsor cab company is Veteran Cab, which can be reached at 519-256-2621. If you are visiting Devonshire Mall or the downtown area on a weekend evening, you can visit a designated taxi stand or flag down a driver on the street, rather than calling.
Travel by bus. If wishing to use the Transit Windsor bus service, you can call 519-944-4111 for information on fares, routes and schedules. As of October 2010, the basic fare is CDN$2.45. Transit Windsor buses operate 365 days a year and has thirteen routes throughout the city. The fourteenth route is the Tunnel Bus, which takes travelers across the border to Detroit. As of October 2010, tunnel bus fares are CDN$3.75 or $4.00 depending on which location you would like to go to in Detroit. Bus routes include stops at locations such as Devonshire Mall, Tecumseh Mall and Caesars Windsor.
Discover downtown on foot. Walking is arguably the best way to see downtown Windsor. Parking meters are located around the downtown core, and there is free parking along the Detroit River waterfront. Park your car and stroll around. Take advantage of the view across the river to Detroit, walk the trail along the waterfront and visit the Peace Fountain located on Riverside Drive at Pillette Road. Restaurants, bars, hotels and shops are also located on Riverside Drive and elsewhere around the downtown area.
