Things to See in Havana, Cuba

Havana (also known as La Habana) is the capital of Cuba. Havana is the largest city of Cuba and one of the most populous in the Caribbean with a population of 2.5 million. Havana is approximately 100 miles southwest of Key West, Florida. Havana is on the northwest side of Cuba facing Florida.

From 1902 to 1958, Havana grew to be a major tourism destination for socialites, gangsters and celebrities. Among the best known personalities during this time were Frank Sinatra, Ernest Hemingway and Ava Gardner. Following the revolution of 1959, Cuba became a communist government.
  1. National Botanical Gardens

    • The National Botanical Gardens showcases plants from around the Caribbean, highlighting Cuba. Not to miss is the Japanese Garden with fountains and waterfalls. The Gardens have a cafeteria, a great opportunity to experience a traditional Cuban lunch, and lodging.

    Tarara Marina

    • Tarara Marina offers Cuban tourists some of the most likely opportunities to discover and explore the immense aquatic ecosystems located in the resort community of Tarara, located on an inlet east of La Habana.
      Visitors to Tarara Marina can swim, sail, snorkel and dive around Cuban coral reefs.

    National Zoo of Cuba

    • In the nearby countryside to Havana, the National Zoo has a collection of exotic animals from around the world. Guests can tour the Zoo on board a small train or via horse-drawn carriages. Also on Zoo grounds is a display of approximately 30 classic vehicles There is a small admission.

    ExpoCuba

    • ExpoCuba is Cuba's largest exhibition center with events throughout the year. ExpoCuba has 25 pavilions, with high season being October and November during the "Havana International Fair." Restaurants and bars are on property.

    Finca La Vigia (Hemingway's House)

    • Guests can tour Ernest Hemingway's "La Vigia Estate," a beautifully restored home now maintained as a museum. Following a visit to Hemingway's estate, guests visit the village that inspired Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" novel. The tour concludes in the Marina Hemingway, a modern resort with hotels and water sport activities.
