Punta Cana attracts thousands each year thanks to its white, sandy beaches, swaying palms, hot sun and turquoise water. Naturally, the beach itself is a huge attraction to the resort visitors. Bring a book, towel and some sunscreen, then sit back and relax to the sound of the ocean waves.
The Punta Cana region of the country is home to the island's longest coral reef. It doesn't get any better than that for snorkeling or scuba conditions. Most all-inclusive resorts will lend you snorkeling gear for no charge. If you want to get a better look at the reef, consider booking a scuba or snorkeling excursion with one of the area's many adventure companies.
There are many other opportunities for adventure on Punta Cana's shoreline. Consider a catamaran boat ride, take a day fishing trip, go sea kayaking or try your hand at parasailing.
Punta Cana is a golfer's dream. The area has more than a half dozen top-rate courses. The first ever PGA Tour's Champions Tour was held in March 2008 at the world-renowned Punta Espada Golf Course, which was designed by legendary golf great Jack Nicklaus. It boasts striking views, with eight oceanfront holes. Punta Cana Resort & Club's La Cana Golf Course is another world-famous place to play. This course, which has 14 ocean-view holes and four that are oceanfront, offers private lessons with pro golfer Kim Jensen and his staff.
If you're not a big golfer, Punta Cana has plenty more to offer. Try an afternoon of horseback riding or take a safari-style Jeep ride. The area has dozens of tour companies that can take you on a variety of day trips and adventures.
Because most hotels are resort-style all-inclusives, guests will find lots of entertainment just outside their hotel door. Many resorts put on evening dancing and singing shows that are family friendly. If you want to step out of the resort for some nightlife, Punta Cana has many options. Restaurants, bars, discos and casinos are sure to satisfy any party animal. Punta Cana has a half dozen casinos where guests can play slot machines and table games, including blackjack, poker and roulette. In addition to gaming, casinos also offer live entertainment. For example, the Barcelo Bavaro Casino is famous for its popular "Tropicalissimo" show.
