Go to the beach. Cape May beach is situated at the southern tip of New Jersey. Beach tags are required. Contact the Cape May County Department of Tourism at 800-227-2297 or your lodging registration desk for beach tag fee info. Check out the boardwalk adjacent to the beach. The boardwalk is home to an arcade, a gift and candy shop, family dining, and the Cape May Convention Hall.
Shop at the Washington Street Mall. Step back in time and enjoy shopping in this historic district. The pedestrian mall offers something for everyone, from books and toys to clothing, gifts and souvenirs. Grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants or snack shops. Don't forget to stop by the candy store for homemade fudge and salt water taffy.
Visit the Cape May County Park and Zoo. Admission is free. The zoo has approximately 85 acres of exhibits that include over 250 species of animals. Located a short drive north of Cape May off the Garden State Parkway, it has easy access for strollers and wheelchairs. The zoo is open 364 days a year.
Stop at the Cape May Point Lighthouse. Located at the tip of New Jersey in Cape May Point State Park, the lighthouse is a part of the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail. The lighthouse, still a marker for navigational purposes, stands at 157 feet high. Climb the 199 steps to the top of the lighthouse to experience an amazing view of land and sea. There is an admission fee for the lighthouse, but admission to the surrounding park is free. The park offers nature trails and fishing and is a notable birding site. Check out the park museum, the World War II bunker, or one of the naturalist programs. Park is open daily.
Visit Historic Cold Spring Village. The Village depicts life in the 1790-1840 era, featuring restored historical buildings and working craftsman in period dress. It offers educational programs, special events such as reenactments, and interactive activities. Visit the general store or gardens, observe craftsmen making pottery, brooms or horseshoes, or have a snack at one of the shops. The Village is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and on weekends in spring and fall. Admission fees for adults and children over 3.
