What to Pack for a Disney World Vacation

Walt Disney World is one of the biggest tourist attractions in history, drawing visitors from every corner of the globe. But those who haven't been there before might not know what to bring with them. Disney World sells just about anything you might need, but they'll often charge you an arm and a leg for it. Rather than spend even more on the park than you already have, consider packing a few handy items in addition to anything you might normally take on vacation, such as clothes and prescription medication.
  1. Weather Preparation

    • Central Florida can be hot and humid. It also has a tendency to rain during the summer months, when tourists are most likely to visit. Bring along plenty of sunscreen, as well as floppy hats to keep the sun off of your face. Water bottles are a good idea, too. Disney World parks sell them, but they're overpriced. You might want to toss in an umbrella in case of inclement weather. Some people like bringing portable fans or spray bottles to keep cool as well. And, having said all that, it may be a good idea to bring a sweater or sweatshirt along; the temperature can drop a bit when the sun goes down.

    Mind the Children

    • Walt Disney World was made for children, but the copious walking and waits in line can wear them down. Bring a stroller for them if you have one. Disney will rent strollers to you, but, again, they have a price tag. Bring along plenty of snacks and juice boxes. Travel games such as those found on an iPod or miniature magnetic board games make waits in line a lot easier to endure. Storybooks they can read or have read to them in line work well, too. In addition, take steps to keep the kids from getting lost. Bring children's tethers or leashes for small ones, and make sure everyone in your party has a cell phone or a two-way radio. That way, if you get separated, you can contact each other very easily.

    Memory Materials

    • While it goes without saying that you should bring a camera with you, along with plenty of film if your camera isn't digital, a trip to Disney World may benefit from a few additional things to help make memories. The most obvious is an autograph book: Mickey and the other costumed mascots will sign it for you if you approach them, giving you an instant souvenir. You may also want to bring an address book with contact info for all of your friends. That way you can send them postcards from postal boxes at the park itself, postmarked from Disney World. Cash, credit cards and/or a little extra cash for souvenirs are good calls as well.
