Visitor Tips: Sea World San Diego

SeaWorld San Diego is located in the city's Mission Bay area and covers 189 acres. The park is noted for its animal attractions such as whale, dolphin and sea lion shows but also offers an array of exhibits, rides and restaurants.
  1. Be Prepared to get wet

    • There is a chance that you may get splashed with water at SeaWorld, especially if you plan to visit the dolphin or whale shows. Wear clothing that dries quickly, or even consider bringing an extra change of clothes which can be stored in a locker. Another option is to purchase rain gear that is for sale in the park, or bring your own. If you apply sunscreen, be sure to use a brand that not only provides the most protection but is also waterproof.

    Footwear

    • Wear sensible shoes or comfortable sneakers, as you will be doing a lot of walking. Comfortable footwear can also help your tolerate standing in the long lines you may encounter at SeaWorld. Wearing open toed sandals will help your feet dry more quickly, or you can being an extra pair of shoes.

    Bringing Kids

    • There's plenty to do for kids at SeaWorld, but some restrictions apply to younger children. Some rides and attractions require people to be at least 42 inches in height, while others may require adult accompaniment if the child is between 42 and 56 inches tall. Be sure not to leave your kids alone with food, as they may become the target of hungry seagulls.

    Don't Bring Food

    • You are not permitted to bring food or beverages into SeaWorld, with the exception of small snack items or bottled water. You will find a variety of restaurants and concession stands, and the prices are relatively inexpensive when compared to other theme parks. Picnic areas are also available for group or family outings.

    Map Your day

    • Sea World is large, so a little planning can ensure that you don't miss anything that you really want to see. Use a map to help plan your day. There are plenty of shows to see, but remember that the more shows you attend, the less time you may have to spend at the other exhibits.

    Buy a Fun Card

    • If you visit San Diego frequently, or live in the area, consider purchasing a Fun Card. With a Fun Card, you pay the price for a day's admission ($69 for those age 10 or over and $59 for kids between the ages of 3 to 9 as of 2010) and get admission during the rest of the season at no additional cost.
