Amharic: Ethiopia's Federal Working Language

Amharic is one of Ethiopia's official languages, serving as the primary working language of the federal government. The other official language is Oromo.

With roughly 25 million native speakers (primarily the Amhara people, ~30% of the population) and millions more using it as a lingua franca, Amharic is the most widely spoken language in the country. It uses a unique script (Ge'ez) and has a rich literary tradition.
