1. Ainu Munen (Iomante): This is the most widely spoken Ainu language, spoken by Ainu communities in Hokkaido and Sakhalin. It has several dialects.
2. Sakhalin Ainu: Spoken by the Ainu people of Sakhalin, this language has several dialects, including South Sakhalin and North Sakhalin.
3. Kuril Ainu: This language was once spoken by the Ainu people in the Kuril Islands, but it is now extinct.
4. Hokkaido Ainu: spoken in Hokkaido, Japan.
5. Hidaka Ainu: This language is critically endangered, with only a handful of elderly speakers.
These Ainu languages share similar grammatical structures and vocabulary, but there are also variations in pronunciation and certain aspects of grammar between dialects. Sadly, due to historical factors, including assimilation policies, many Ainu languages are endangered, and the number of fluent speakers is declining rapidly. Efforts are being made to preserve and revitalize these languages by documenting and teaching them to the younger generations.
