How to Tip in Mexico at a Time Share

Tipping is a custom used to pay for services rendered by a person such as a waiter, concierge or valet. Tipping in Mexico is very similar to tipping in the United States; it is both customary and expected by those in the service industry. Depending on the type of services you are tipping for in your Mexican timeshare, the amounts vary greatly.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep loose change and money on you at all times in case the need to tip arises. The Mexican peso and American dollar are of different values and it is a smart idea to convert your currency upon landing at any Mexican airport.

    • 2

Tip accordingly. In the U.S., 15 to 20 percent is considered the standard amount for tipping for good service. In Mexico, 10 percent is considered acceptable and 15 percent is considered the appropriate amount for good service.

Leave a tip for the person who cleans your timeshare during your stay. Because maids typically work on a rotating schedule, it is recommend you leave a daily tip for your maid between US$1 and US$5 per day, depending on the class of your timeshare establishment.

Give a dollar to the valet who parks your car. Feel free to tip more, but US$1 is the standard amount to give the valet of your timeshare.

Offer US$1 to your timeshare's bellboy and US$2 to your concierge anytime he or she provides a service for you.
