How to Calculate My UTC

UTC is an acronym used to represent Coordinated Universal Time --- the time standard by which the world operates. UTC time is the same as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and therefore the local time in London is always equivalent to UTC time. In order to calculate UTC, you must use the following formula: UTC = Current Time + UTC Value. Depending on where you are located, the UTC value will be different.

Instructions

    • 1

      Determine your UTC value in order to input the correct value into the formula. Some examples of UTC values are as follows:

      Australia, Sydney -- UTC +10

      Canada, Montreal -- UTC -5

      China -- UTC +8

      France -- UTC +1

      Ireland -- UTC 0

      Japan -- UTC +9

      Russia -- UTC +3

      USA, Dallas -- UTC -6

      USA, Los Angeles -- UTC -8

      USA, New York -- UTC -5

    • 2

      Check the current time at your location and input the time and UTC value into the formula UTC = Current Time + UTC Value.

    • 3

      Solve the resulting formula. So for example, if you are located in New York City and the current time is 13:05 (which is 1:05 p.m.), your formula would be as follows:

      UTC = Current Time + UTC Value

      UTC = 13:05 + (-5)

      UTC = 8:05

      Therefore, your UTC time would be equal to 8:05 a.m.
