Determine your average rate of speed over the distance covered. If you have been traveling down a highway using automatic cruise control, this should be fairly easy. Because you want to calculate miles traveled, your speed should be in miles per hour.

    • 2

Tabulate the amount of time you have spent traveling. If you have stopped at rest areas or taken other breaks, subtract that from your travel time. Add together only the time you have actually spent on the road. Keep this number in hours as well.

    • 3

Use your calculator, if necessary, to multiply your average speed (rate) by your travel time (time).

    • 4

Your average speed rate multiplied by your travel time will give you the number of miles (distance), which will represent how far you have traveled.
