How to Say I Love You in Spanish

Spanish is the most widely spoken of the Romance languages, which are those that came out of Vulgar Latin, the languages spoken after the Roman Empire fell. It also can be a particularly romantic language, with several ways of saying "I love you."

Instructions

    • 1

Say "te amo" in a committed relationship. This is the most direct translation of "I love you" and is pronounced like "tay ah-moe." Keep in mind that this is a very serious expression in Spanish and should not be said lightly. Say "te amo mucho" to mean "I love you a lot."

    • 2

Say "te quiero" if you don't feel so romantically inclined. It is pronounced "tay key-air-o." This is a lot like "I like you" in English, but a bit stronger. Add "mucho" to mean "I like you a lot."

    • 3

Say "estoy enamorado" if you're a man and want to say "I am in love." For a woman, say "estoy enamorada." To say "I am in love with you," add "de ti" at the end.

    • 4

Say "Eres el amor de mi vida" when you mean "You are the love of my life." Similarly, say "Te quiero con todo mi alma" if you mean "I love you with all of my soul."

    • 5

Say "me gustas" to mean "I like you physically." It is a bit crude, however, so use it sparingly or with someone with a sense of humor.
