Air Cargo Security Training

Enforcing and implementing air cargo standards for the airline industry is the responsibility of the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Providing instruction on the development of security programs for cargo handling facilities and training personnel to carry out these functions are other responsibilities under the authority of TSA.
  1. Screening Requirements

    • Congress mandated the 9/11 Commission Act in 2007, and this act helped to establish screening regulations for all cargo transported on passenger aircraft. August 1, 2010 was the deadline for the implementation of this mandate for the airline industry. TSA has developed a Certified Screening Program (CCSP) to train security personnel within the airline industry in order for cargo handling facilities to fulfill the mandate.

    CCSP

    • TSA uses the Certified Cargo Screening Program (CCSP) to certify cargo screening facilities located all throughout the United States. CCSP participation is voluntary, and the program has been designed to enable vetted, validated and certified cargo chain facilities to completely fulfill screening requirements.

    Requirements

    • Cargo facility personnel will undergo training in areas such as learning how to use approved screening technology, the proper way to screen cargo, and how to conduct vulnerability assessments. These are but a few of the training courses that are used by TSA to train personnel about securing air cargo.
