Customs Regulations in the USA & Canada

Securing the borders from unwanted entities and materials is one of the many responsibilities of customs and border agencies. Both U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Canada Border Services Agency serve to keep their borders safe for their citizens.
  1. U.S. Customs and Border Protection

    • The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. One of the primary missions of the CBP is to keep terrorists and their weapons out of the United States. Many regulations enforced by the CBP are also those pertaining to immigration and drug laws.

    U.S./Canada FAST Program

    • The U.S./Canada FAST Program was created to promote free and secure trade between the two countries at the shared borders. Commercial carriers that are a part of the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) or Canada's Partner's in Protection (PIP), receive expedited clearance at border entry sites.

    Canada Border Services Agency

    • The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) offers a plethora of online guides and brochures for visitors and temporary residents. The CBSA has customs guidelines regarding, but not restricted to, the importation of baggage, as well as bringing pets and guns into the country.
