National Dress

Bhutanese wear traditional attire daily, especially for work, school, and formal occasions.

Men's Gho

• Knee-length robe wrapped and belted at waist.
• Cotton or wool; solid colors common.
• Worn with kera (sash) over left shoulder.
• Long-sleeved shirt and pants underneath for formality.

Women's Kira

• Ankle-length wraparound dress, belted at waist.
• Cotton or silk with intricate woven patterns.
• Worn with blouse/jacket underneath; often a tego (jacket) and wonju (inner blouse).

Footwear and Accessories

• Traditional boots: pa lap (men), kidu (women) with upturned toes.
• Silver/gold jewelry with traditional motifs.

Modern Trends

Western clothing (jeans, t-shirts) common in urban areas and among youth, but gho/kira remain mandatory in government offices, schools, and ceremonies—symbolizing cultural identity.
