Cabins at Blackwater Falls, West Virginia

Explore the rustic backcountry of 2,456-acre Blackwater Falls State Park, boating upon Pendleton Lake or hiking across more than 24 miles of trails through dense forests and wildflower-filled meadows. The centerpiece of the park is Blackwater Falls, a five-story waterfall that traverses through an 8-mile-long gorge, dotted with lush hemlock and towering red spruce trees, before dropping into a black pool of water. Soak up the atmosphere by staying at one of the handful of cabins near the park.

  1. Park It

    • Stay inside Blackwater Falls State Park at one of the park’s nearly 40 cabins. You’ll find some cabins less than 15 minutes on foot from the large Blackwater Lodge. Others are just a 10-minute drive from the lodge, set along the north bank of the Blackwater River. Made of wood and stone, the spacious cabins sleep between two and eight people and come outfitted with full kitchens and fireplaces with wood. Some also have washer and dryer units. A handful of cabins allow pets but are available on a first-come, first-served basis. From early June through mid-August, the cabins must be rented for at least one week.

    Grin and Bear It

    • Leaders Den Lodging is in Davis, 10 minutes from Blackwater Falls and in the heart of Black Bear Resort. The four-season resort includes a miniature golf course, heated outdoor pool and catch-and-release pond, as well as tennis, volleyball and basketball courts. The resort has one three-bedroom, three-bathroom cabin available for rent. Luxurious accommodations include antique wooden floors, a gas fireplace, full kitchen, two whirlpool tubs, a porch swing and game room with pinball machines.

    Downtown Davis Adjacent

    • Best of Canaan offers two cabins for rent in Davis, just 10 minutes from Blackwater Falls. The cabins are based in the rural neighborhood of Pendletonheim but are just a 10-minute walk to town and a host of casual restaurants, coffeehouses and small grocery stores. Both cabins are two stories, sleep up to four people and include full kitchens and washer and dryers. Some cabins may include an outdoor barbecue grill, fireplace and whirlpool tub.

    Soldiering On

    • Patriots 4 Outdoor Resort is nestled in the heart of Parsons, a small town just 25 minutes west of Blackwater Falls. Nestled along the banks of the Cheat River, the resort includes a general store stocked with snacks, beverages, sundries, fishing gear and canoe and kayak rentals. In addition to campsites, the resort has two cabins with private decks, set just steps from a trout-filled fishing pond and creek. Proceeds from cabin rentals and store purchases go toward a veterans program that provides free accommodation for wounded soldiers.
