Cheat Lake, West Virginia is in the northern part of the state in Monongalia County, almost directly south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The closest municipality is Morgantown - a 15 minute drive southwest of the lake. The lake was formed by damning the Cheat River, which provides electricity to the region. The area has several cabins to rent but none are right on Cheat Lake. However, a resort and nearby cabins provide plenty of options for travelers.
The only accommodations right on Cheat Lake are the rooms at the Lakeview Golf Resort and Spa. This resort is on 500 acres and has two golf courses. Accommodations are in the form of individual rooms or condominiums. Rooms have either one king bed or two double beds. Cable TV, pay-per-view movies, free Internet and coffee stations are in all the rooms. The condominiums may be more suitable for traveling families. They have full kitchens, dining rooms, washers and dryers, and living rooms. The hotel is not pet-friendly and is non-smoking. A restaurant and lounge serve American-style food and drinks. Friday and Saturday nights are known for their prime rib and pasta buffets. A fitness center, spa, meeting facilities and conference center are also on-site.

The Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground is about 10 miles from Cheat Lake and offers both modern and rustic cabins and is also close to Lake Harris and Feather Lake. Rustic cabins are simple designs with wood stoves, electricity, a gas range and fridge. They can sleep three to seven people depending on the cabin. Modern cabins have full kitchens and bathrooms, a dining room, living room and all the comforts of home. The largest modern cabin is a small lodge that sleeps 20 people. The campground has day-use areas including playgrounds, trails, paddle boats, hiking, fishing and an indoor climbing wall. A dining hall and several pavilions can be rented for larger events.

Mountain Creek Cabins is located about 10 miles from Cheat Lake and has seven, log cabins for rent. The cabins are equipped with fireplaces, kitchens, hot tubs, air-conditioning, TV with DVD players, bathrooms and a grill outback. Local pizza delivery can even be arranged for those who don't want to cook. These cabins are open year round but four-wheel-drive is necessary to access the site. The area's activities include rafting, golf, visiting local wineries, horseback riding, trails, and sledding and skiing in the winter.
