Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort is nestled in northwestern West Virginia's Monongahela National Forest, and offers 60 slopes and trails for alpine and cross-country skiing, as well as snowmobile riding. The resort also has 14 lifts to make these slopes and trails accessible. During the summer, Snowshoe Mountain is a popular destination for hiking and mountain climbing. Many of the cabins near Snowshoe are open year-round so tourists can take advantage of summer or winter activities.
Sunrise Backcountry Hut is on the Snowshoe Mountain property and is only accessible via skiing or snowmobiles. This cabin, which is two miles from the Cheat River Mountain Ridge, has three bedrooms that can sleep up to eight people. Guests at Sunrise Backcountry Hut can also take advantage of the four-course gourmet meal that is prepared by the hut's chef, also known as the "Hutmaster." For guests who are staying overnight, breakfast is also prepared in the morning. Entrees that are served at Sunrise include a 14-ounce New York strip steak, glazed salmon and grilled Italian portabella mushrooms. The cabin is available everyday of the week. The lodging rate includes the cost of transportation to and from the hut as well as meals.

Located in Slatyfork, West Virginia, Elk River Inn is an approximate 20-minute drive from Snowshoe Mountain and offers quick access to the hiking and cycling trails in the Monongahela National Forest. This inn offers five guest rooms in the lodge, as well as four cabins: Tacy's, Mary's Birdhouse, The Hickory and The Hemlock. The lodge offers a sitting room area with fireplace, outfitter's shop and a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Top of the Ridge in Slatyfork is a 30-minute drive from Snowshoe Mountain and provides five bedrooms that sleeps up to 12 people, as well as three bathrooms. The cabin also has a living room area with gas fireplace, game room with ping-pong and pool tables, fully- furnished kitchen, and back deck with a stone fireplace and whirlpool tub. Top of the Ridge provides access to high-speed Internet, as well as walkie-talkie radios that have a range of five miles so the family can communicate with each other. Pets are allowed to stay in this cabin. This cabin is less than 20 minutes from fishing and swimming opportunities at the Elk and Greenbriar Rivers. Golfing enthusiasts who stay at Top of the Ridge are only 10 minutes from the 18-hole Gary Player public golf course in Hawthorne Valley.
