Pack a picnic basket filled with food that is easy to eat on a picnic including sandwiches, salads in containers, fruit parfait and cookies. Place the items in a refrigerated cooler and in the picnic basket. In a seperate bag pack a blanket and umbrellas, in case of rain. Include a map or GPS if you are enjoying a picnic in an area unknown to you or in a remote place. As this is a romantic picnic, pack flowers and romantic food like chocolate dippled strawberries - just don't forget they need a refrigerated picnic basket. Champagne is another romantic idea and even bringing champagne glasses is an added touch.
Select a romantic location. In Southern California there are plenty of beaches, of course, and mountain locations. Making it special and unique is part of the romantic experience. If you want a park setting Heisler Park is recommended as one of the best places for watching a sunset. Combine the sunset with an evening picnic. La Jolla Cove Beach is an ideal location for a beach picnic. A morning sunrise or evening starlit sunset adds romantic ambiance.
Check the weather on the day of your adventure. Dress accordingly and give your sweetheart tips on what to wear, especially if the romantic picnic is a surprise. Gather the picnic basket and supplies and depart for the beach. Schedule plenty of time so you can both relax and enjoy the meal, the environment and the views of the particular area of southern California you are enjoying.
