On the India Gate: Names inscribed

The names of the martyrs who died in the First World War are inscribed on the walls of the India Gate. The names of those who died in the Anglo-Afghan War, fought between the British Raj and Afghanistan from 1919 to 1920, are also inscribed on the gate. The total number of names inscribed on the gate is 13,300.

The names are inscribed in English on two sets of bronze panels, one on each side of the gate. The panels are arranged in alphabetical order, with the names of the officers listed first, followed by the names of the other ranks.
