Hawaiian Airlines allows a passenger to have one piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item. If there is an infant or a baby with the passenger, a car seat, baby seat or strollers are considered checked baggage at no charge. However, there is no extra baggage allowance for babies carried on your lap. If the passenger carries more than 2 pieces of baggage, he may incur an extra baggage fee. You can carry one personal item apart from this one piece carry-on item. This could be your briefcase, laptop or a backpack. If the overhead compartment is full, Hawaiian Airlines has the right to move your carry-on baggage to the cargo department of the aircraft. There are some items that are not considered as a carry-on baggage, but are allowed with you in the cabin, such as a handbag, an overcoat, a foot rug, an umbrella, binoculars, a camera, a folding wheelchair and books. Sometimes the staff may ask you to stow these items away in the baggage compartment so that there is more room in the cabin for flights that are full.
Checked baggage is the luggage given to the airlines for storage in the cargo area during flight. It is not accessible to the passenger during the flight. Hawaiian Airlines has rules regarding the size and weight of checked baggage. Checked baggage cannot exceed 62 linear inches, which equates to the length plus width plus height. The weight of the baggage must be 50 pounds or less.
To ensure the maximum safety of the passengers and to avoid any mishap on the flight, several categories of items are prohibited by Hawaiian Airlines as per TSA guidelines. Some prohibited items include: fuels, aerosol, fireworks, gun powder, all types of explosives and several other dangerous items. You may not carry sporting goods equipment onto a flight. You must check in these items, which include bats, golf clubs and other sporting goods equipment. Also prohibited from carry-on, but acceptable as checked baggage are: self-defense items, tools, sharp objects and certain firearms. It is prudent to check with both Hawaiian Airlines and the TSA prior to any flight to ensure you are in compliance of the current requirements.
