Can old Turkish notes and coins still be used in Turkey?

As of 2022, old Turkish notes and coins that were issued before 2005 are no longer legal tender in Turkey and cannot be used for transactions. In 2005, Turkey underwent a currency redenomination, where the old Turkish Lira (TRL) was replaced by the new Turkish Lira (TRY) at a rate of 1,000,000:1.

During a transitional period after 2005, old TRL notes and coins could still be exchanged for TRY at banks and authorized exchange offices. However, this transitional period has long expired, and the old currency is no longer accepted.

If you have any old Turkish notes or coins that were issued before 2005, they may have historical or numismatic value, but they cannot be used for making purchases or other financial transactions in Turkey.
