Can the repo man charge for personal items?

The repo man is only legally allowed to take possession of the secured property, in this case, the car. Any personal items found in the car that belongs to the debtor should not be taken by the repo man. However, the dealership, bank or other secured party repossessing the vehicle may hold other secured collateral (such as money or credit cards) of the debtor until all debts have been paid off.
