When did the Ruble become currency in Russia?

The Ruble currency has existed in one form or another for several centuries in Russia. Initially used during the times of Kievan Rus', the Ruble's modern usage traces back to the Soviet Union-era in the 1940s during which it circulated extensively across Russia and other neighboring Soviet countries of that time.
