Check with your local bank. If your bank does not offer foreign currency exchange, ask at the larger banks in your city. Larger banks are more likely to have currency exchange services and offer competitive exchange rates for the most common currencies, such as Mexican pesos, Canadian dollars or euros.
Find the nearest international airport or airport with a currency-exchange desk. It is recommended to call the airport in advance to confirm that it carries the currency you need to exchange. Airports buy currency at a low rate and sell at a high rate. Most airports also charge a service fee.
Donate your leftover foreign currency. There are many charities that take foreign currencies. To donate to the United States Fund for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), send the currency by mail to:
