How to Travel With an Epipen

Individuals that suffer from allergies know how to avoid their allergy triggers. However those that experience severe attacks travel with an Epipen, just in case something happens. An Epipen is prescription medication and therefore can be taken with you on flights and other modes of transportation. To avoid any hassles, you need to make sure you have the correct paperwork. If you do not make the proper preparations for your medications, then it will not be allowed passed the security check point.

Place the Epipen in its own clear plastic bag or container that is easy to access. Put the bag with the Epipen in your carry on luggage. You can quickly pull out the Epipen if the security officer requires a visual inspection. If the Epipen is mixed in with other items then it can take longer to find.

Request for a visual inspection. The x-ray will not harm or damage the Epipen in any way, but the security officers may require a visual inspection.

Carry a doctor's note with you detailing your allergy and why you require the Epipen. This is not required: But it can speed you through the security check point, particularly if the Epipen doesn't have a professional prescription label affixed to it. The label and note are not required, but it can make the screening process go faster. You must explain your allergy and why you carry the Epipen, at the very least.
