There is no charge for taking on board one carry-on bag. Passengers are required to pack lithium batteries in their carry-on, with ends covered (travelers are allowed to have batteries inside devices). Passengers traveling to/from/through Asia are allowed to check in two bags.
Passengers to/from/through Europe and India are allowed to check in one bag.
Travelers to/from Brazil are allowed to check in two bags of up to 70 lbs each.
Passengers should tag each of their bags with their name, destination address, phone number and email in case the bags are lost during flight. It is also helpful to include date, flight number and city of departure on the tag. Change this information for each flight to make it easier for luggage handlers to identify your bag should it get lost.
Like many other airlines, American Airlines no longer provides protective plastic bags for checked backpacks. To avoid your pack's straps getting caught during transport, take with you a large garbage bag or other large protective bag and place your pack inside it.
