Travel Weather Advice

Good weather can be just as important as a well-planned travel itinerary. Unexpected rain or a snowstorm can ruin the best-made travel preparations. So you should check the weather before a trip no matter how brief or how familiar you are with the destination. Television, the Internet and even the radio offer up-to-date weather reports that should be checked before and while you're on your trip.
  1. Checking the Weather Channel

    • Check the Weather Channel on TV or online for your trip. Weather reports are available for later in the day to the last day of the month. You can use your cell phone if you have Internet access or if a TV or computer is not available. If you happen to be traveling to a destination near your home, you may be able to get the weather at that location over the radio.

    Other Travel Information

    • When checking the weather you not only get the temperature and related information but also other beneficial travel information like traffic updates. On the Weather Channel online there is also driving safety and mosquito level information.

    Hard to Determine Weather

    • If, for whatever reason, the weather is difficult to determine via the Internet, radio or TV, then call the hotel where you will be staying. Ask them what the temperature and the weather in general will be like so you can pack accordingly. If you are staying with family, friends or a host family, ask them what the temperature is during the time you plan to visit.

    Unpredictable Weather

    • When traveling to areas with unpredictable weather, you may want to bring extra clothing or items like an umbrella. If you are not able to carry extra items with you due to airplane weight restrictions, then bring extra money so that you can buy an umbrella, coat, boots or other items to prepare for whatever weather you may encounter.

    Temperature Extremes

    • Proper dress is important when traveling to places with extreme temperatures, whether they be very cold, hot or humid. Also get information about any health hazards that you may encounter like frost-bite or heat stroke. In some countries you may also need vaccinations to reduce the chance of contracting an infectious disease. Get all the weather and temperature information necessary so that your trip is a happy and relaxing one.
