According to the Japanese government, as of November 2013, over 200 billion yen (approximately $2.1 billion) has been donated to Japan for reconstruction efforts following the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. The largest donation was made by the Chinese government, which provided 50 billion yen ($425 million). Other large donations were made by the United States ($150 million), the European Union ($120 million), and South Korea ($100 million).

In addition to government donations, many private individuals and organizations have also donated money to Japan. For example, the Red Cross has raised over $1 billion for relief efforts, while the American Red Cross has raised over $160 million.
