Why do the hills of a coaster decrease in height throughout ride?

This isn't necessarily the case. Many roller coaster designs consist of a series of hills that increase in height throughout the ride. Others maintain the same height or only decrease slightly. The design and height profile of a roller coaster are determined by a variety of factors, such as the physics of the ride, engineering constraints, and desired rider experience.
