At Everglades National Park in Everglades City there are plenty of activities to keep you busy that won't put a dent in your wallet. Private vehicles are admitted to the park for just $10 in 2011, and the fee is good for 7 consecutive days at all entrances. After entering the park, consider taking a motorboat tour of the Everglades to view alligators, turtles, dolphins and manatees. There also are numerous hiking trails, and you can rent a canoe for as little as 2 hours for $16 and for a full day for $40. To launch boats in Everglades National Park, you need a permit. Permits cost $5 and are good for 7 consecutive days.

Silver Springs is a park of sorts. The park is open most days of the year, with less availability in January and February. Watch park rangers feed crocodiles and alligators, visit the botanical gardens and take a ride on the wilderness trail, where a Jeep Wrangler pulls your tram through the Florida wilderness. The park also offers several special events during the year, including a Festival of Lights and concerts. Admission is $29.99 per person as of January 2011.
