Before searching for an affordable hotel, consider what kind of accommodations you need. The price and amenities at a family-friendly hotel will differ from a romantic motel room for two. Location is another factor to consider--a hotel near the beach adjacent to the historic downtown will be more expensive than one in a less convenient location.
Another factor that can affect the cost of a hotel is the time of year. Rates are higher during high-season--December through Easter--and continues throughout the summer months. Cheap hotel rooms are easier to find off-season, which is usually throughout much of autumn.
Most hotel websites provide rates and availability, but it's wise to call the hotel directly. The reservations agent or hotel desk clerk may have information about special events, discounts or promotions that might affect the rate you see online. Also, if you're quoted a price that isn't low enough for you, don't be afraid to ask for a cheaper option.
