Cheap Cuban Hotels

Cuba is one of the Caribbean's most affordable destinations. Havana is a popular spot for tourists, who often spend a few days in the historic city before heading off to one of the island's spectacular white sand beaches. Many of the beach hotels are all-inclusive, however there are a few cheaper options. There are restrictions on US citizens visiting Cuba. Please check before you book. US dollars are not accepted in Cuba. The euro is the preferred currency.
  1. Hotel Gran Piedra

    • Situated at The Gran Piedra National Park, this hotel is in the Sierra Maestra region, about 15 miles from Santiago de Cuba. There are 18 cabins ideally located for hiking, mountain climbing, nature trails and cycling. Standard rooms are $23 per night and all have private bathrooms, phone and TV. The hotel has a bar and restaurant, garden and roof-top terrace.

    Hotel Santa Clara Libre

    • This Santa Clara hotel, opposite the Leoncio Vidal park, is basic but comfortable. It has a restaurant on the top floor serving classic Cuban cuisine, with views over the city . There are non-smoking rooms, a games room and small gift shop. All rooms have air conditioning, hot and cold water, phone and satellite TV. The Caridad Theater, the José Marti library and the Museum of Decorative Arts are right next door. Rooms start at $23 as of 2010.

    The Hotel Lido

    • The Lido, in Old Havana, is about 15 miles from the airport and ideally located for discovering the historic part of the city. All rooms have private bathrooms, air conditioning, phone and TV. However, there is no hot water in the bathrooms. There is a restaurant and bar and roof top patio. Prices start at $26 a night, as of 2010.

    Hotel Lincoln

    • The Lincoln is in Centro Habana, between Old Havana and the modern bit of the city. Built in 1926, the hotel has traditional Cuban shows in the evenings, with dancing on the roof-top terrace. All rooms have private bathrooms and air conditioning, with phone and TV. Prices are from $20 a night, as of 2010.

    Hotel Villa Herradura

    • The Villa Herradura is right on the beach in Varadero. There is a bar and restaurant and all rooms have air conditioning, private bathrooms but twin beds rather than doubles. Some rooms have a sea-view. The hotel has a booking desk for local tours and attractions, and there are a few beach activities.

    Hotel Mar del Sur

    • The Mar del Sur in Varadero is on the beach and also has its own swimming pool. Rooms can be booked on a room-only basis or there is an all-inclusive plan which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, drinks and all sports activities. One and two-room apartments are also available. The hotel has nightly entertainment.
