Cheap Northern California Weekend Getaways

Northern California offers many different experiences to its travelers including camping, boating, wine tasting and spa visits among many other things. Generally considered an expensive destination for the wealthy, there are, in reality, plenty of economical getaways costing under $160 a night as of August 2010.     • This is a vacation package offered at rates as low as $75 a night as of August of 2010. It includes a mud bath, hot mineral Jacuzzi, use of the Hot Springs pool, a winery guide, and a blanket wrap. Couples can also buy the "Ultimate Getaway" package. This package includes a one hour massage plus all the luxuries of the regular spa package. This package starts at $153 as of August 2010. Couples visiting this resort should also take advantage of the surrounding area. Golden Haven is in Napa Valley, in northern California's wine country.     Lake Oroville State Recreation Area

    • Lake Oroville is a man-made lake in northern California shaped by the country's largest earth-filled dam. This recreation area is large, encompassing approximately 28,450 acres of land. The park offers boating, horse, bike and hiking trails, and a luxurious horse camp. There are also onsite laundry facilities, a convenience store, showers, and a dump station. Lake Oroville also offers free wireless Internet to guests within 150 feet of the park's recreation center. Most guests to this area take advantage of the camping options at Lake Oroville. Some of Oroville's sites are on floating platforms in one of its coves, making camping here unique. Regular campsites start at $40 per night as of August 2010. Floating platforms start at $150 a night. These sites can accommodate up to 8 and 15 people at a time, respectively.

    Red Lion Hotel Eureka

    • Eureka offers deep sea fishing tours.

      Eureka's Red Lion Hotel is easily accessible to travelers, just off of California's Highway 101 and 15 minutes away from Eureka/Arcata Municipal Airport.
