The Sandwich Fair, a Sandwich tradition since 1888, is the oldest continuing county fair in Illinois, according to the Sandwich town website. This fair takes place on the weekend after Labor Day at the Sandwich Fairgrounds. Attractions include agricultural events, such as a tractor pull, horse shows and livestock competitions. Live music is provided on the Ag Land Stage. Single-day tickets are sold on the days of the fair; season tickets allow visitors to attend every day. The Best Western Timber Creek Inn & Suites and Convention Center offers accommodations.

Silver Springs State Park in Yorkville, Illinois, is a 15 minute-drive from Sandwich. Recreational opportunities at the 1,400-acre park include fishing and boating on Loon Lake and Fox River, picnic areas with barbecue grills, hiking trails and an equestrian center and horseback riding paths. Canoe rentals are available. Visitors to Silver Springs can also take advantage of pheasant and squirrel hunting and bow-hunting for deer. Primitive tent camping areas overlook the Fox River. The campgrounds are not accessible by car but are a short walk from the road. Only licensed groups, such Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and youth groups, can camp at Silver Springs. Camping fees are required.

Shabbona Lake, a 1,550-acre park in the Shabbona area, is a 30-minute drive from Sandwich and features a 318-acre man-made lake with facilities for fishing and boating. Accommodations include a campground and two on-site two-room cabins with bunk beds, dining tables, outside picnic areas and fire pits. The campground is accessible by car and offers electricity and sanitary dumping facilities. Recreational opportunities at Shabbona Lake include trails for hiking, picnic areas and a 744-acre hunting area. Hunting includes firearms for dove and archery for deer. During the winter, Shabbona Lake offers snowmobile riding and ice skating on the lake.
