Cheap Rooms in the Fremont District of Las Vegas

Named for explorer John C. Fremont, downtown's Fremont Street was the first paved street in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fremont Street is home to hotel casinos with cheap rooms and plentiful gambling and entertainment opportunities. Located just outside the casinos in this district is the 10-story canopy where the Freemont Street Experience, an animated light and sound show, provides free entertainment nightly.

    • Located at 1 Fremont Street, the Golden Gate Hotel opened its doors in 1906 and offered hotel rooms for $1 per day. As of summer 2010, daily rates for the 106 available rooms start at $28. Showgirls and classic grand piano shows provide entertainment for gamblers, who can choose from table games or slot machines. Golden Gate Hotel has two restaurants including the Shrimp Bar and Deli, where guests can order shrimp cocktail or sandwiches. The Bay City Diner is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

    Fitzgerald's Casino and Hotel

    • The 34-story Fitzgerald's Hotel and Casino is centrally located on Fremont Street. As of summer 2010, room rates start at $29 per night. The casino offers table games including blackjack, craps and roulette, in addition to a poker room, keno and slot machines. Several restaurants are available, including Don B's steakhouse, which has early bird specials beginning at 5 p.m., and a daily fresh fish special. The Courtyard Grill and Buffet offers breakfast, lunch and dinner; McDonald's and Krispy Kreme provide fast food options on the first floor of the casino.

    Four Queens Hotel and Casino

    • The Four Queens has over 600 hotel rooms, each with a flat-panel TV and coffeemaker; as of summer 2010, rates start at $33 per night. For a fee, guests can watch pay-per-view movies or use wireless Internet services. The Four Queens has three restaurants and two bars. Hugo's Cellar serves dinner seven nights a week, Magnolia's Veranda offers 24-hour food service, and the Chicago Brewing Company serves micro-brews and pizza. Gaming at the Four Queens includes a sports book, keno lounge, slot machines and table games.

    El Cortez Hotel and Casino

    • Constructed in 1941 and once owned by Bugsy Siegel, the El Cortez was the first large-scale resort in downtown Las Vegas. El Cortez features three bars that provide live entertainment, flat screen TVs and happy hour specials. Poker, slot machines, blackjack and other casino games are all available at the El Cortez. Dining options include the Flame Steakhouse for dinner and Café Cortez, where guests can order breakfast, lunch or dinner; a food court is also available. Room rates as of summer 2010 begin at $27.
