Luxury Cruises With Kids

Beyond commercialized cruises with fleets of ships and multitudes of cruisers, there is another class of cruise line for those willing to spend more for a more luxurious experience. These cruises often offer extended cruises that travel the world over. Because of this focus on elegance and in exotic destinations, there may be some concerns when it comes to traveling with children. While most luxury cruises allow passengers to bring children, not all provide entertainment or care for kids.
  1. Crystal Cruises

    • Crystal Cruises is one of the few luxury cruise lines that offers distinct services for kids. On-board activities for kids include Juniors Programs for specific age groups. Activities directors supervise each group, and children with parental permission may come and go whenever they wish. Groups are separated into 3- to 7-year-olds, where activities focus around games and crafts; 8- to 12-year-olds, where PlayStation, Xbox and board games provide much of the entertainment; and 13- to 17-year olds, with a special video arcade lounge. There are also kid-friendly menu options included at each dining area, and babysitting services are available for an additional fee.

    Yachts of Seabourn

    • While Yachts of Seabourn doesn't seem to cater to children nearly as much, children older than 6 months (or 12 months for extended cruises) are welcome on all cruises. Still, any child under the age of 18 must travel with adults at all times, and the majority of Yachts of Seabourn activities seem better suited to adults, including things like yoga groups, culinary classes, and wine-tastings. Children are welcome to be a part of the adventure, as long as parents are vigilant.

    Silversea

    • Silversea is another luxury cruise line that permits children, but this company takes a decidedly hands-off approach. Children generally must be older than 6 months -- or older than one year, for the Prince Albert II ship. The Silversea website states that although these minors are permitted, "there are no special [programs] for children on board, and Silversea does not provide for the care, entertainment or supervision of children." Children under 6 may also be limited from some short excursions. Additionally, though guests 18 years and older do not have to be accompanied by an adult on Silversea Cruises, they may not drink unless they are 21 or older.
