What was the route that Ernest Giles took on his first expedition?

On 2nd August 1872, Ernest Giles set off from Chambers Pillar (about 175 km north of Alice Springs) on a solo expedition to cross Australia from east to west, following a route that would lead him first to the Western Australian border, then to Perth.
