Did they ever find the Northwest Passage?

Yes, the Northwest Passage was finally navigated in full in 1906 by Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen and his crew on the Gjøa. It took them three years to complete the voyage, which began in 1903 from Oslo, Norway. They spent the winters of 1903-1904 and 1904-1905 in Gjøa Haven on King William Island, Canada.
