Mono Wind Casino is a 10,000-square-foot property with 350 slot machines, eight gaming tables and one restaurant about 40 miles northeast of downtown Fresno. The Big Sandy Rancheria Band of Western Mono Indians opened the casino in 1996. The tribe signed a contract with Ceasars Entertainment in 2004 to build a $250-million casino resort, but the plan was scuttled the following year when Ceasars merged with Harrah's Entertainment. The casino was closed for a few weeks in 2005 and raided by the Fresno County Sheriff's Department in 2008 in a lingering battle over a wrongful-termination judgment in favor of a former general manager.
